Fuerteventura is the driest and warmest of the Canary Islands according to The Traveller. With more than 300 days of annual sunshine, it is a perfect year-round beach and holiday destination.

The Islands are Spanish-owned and the most southerly and hottest part of Europe, lying just 100km west of the southern tip of Morocco.

As the name implies it can be very windy, hence Fuerteventura's fame as a watersports destination, but also completely calm and, more usually, with a steady breeze ensures the island feels wonderfully hot (not unbearably so) in the summer.

Note: Even when cloudy or windy  the summer UV is often 11 (the highest) and you still tan beautifully.

Or burn! Factor 30 sun lotion is essential.
